I know what the fairness doctrine is in concept. Who is advocating implementing it? Is there a senator or congressman pushing for this? A talk show personality? The fairness doctrine isn't a bad idea. The concept that those with money can simply dominate the airwaves does not strike a chord with you? If I have more money, I have more of a voice? Thank God for the Internet to help offset that somewhat.

Conservatives have pushed this idea that the fairness doctrine will mark the end of their radio dominance. It is foreign to me why a person would want to listen to something that is completely one sided. I have no issue with their views. I do take issue when they push misinformation and inaccuracies. Case in point, 70% of Fox News viewers believe that there were WMDs in Iraq. They can say what they want. But my issue is more about changing the facts themselves, not their opinion.

"If a conservative doesn’t like a talk show host, he switches channels. Liberals demand that those they don’t like be shut down."

In regards to this you said, "I have not seen any evidence of this. I challenge anyone to produce a pamphlet, petition, letter, court filing, plea, or any other evidence of this. They never will. Because it is pure fabrication."

Take some time to look into the Fairness Doctrine. It would eviscerate conservative talk radio.

Well said Chuck. I am completely amazed that some people can see things in such a narrow minded way. Us and them. Really. Is it really necessary to be so divided over trivial nonsense?

"If a conservative is a homosexual, they quietly enjoy their life. If a liberal is a homosexual, they loudly demand legislated respect."

Uh, NO, not quite. If a conservative is homosexual, he won't necessarily IDENTIFY as such, he may get married and father children to help advance his own political career, and he'll spout hypocritical anti-Gay positions ... but still enjoy engaging in furtive, anonymous sexual encounters with other men, usually at motels, roadside rest areas, and airport bathrooms.

Whereas if a liberal is homosexual, he will more like live his life openly, honestly, and with political integrity, and advocate equal treatment for all law-abiding, taxpaying citizens regardless of sexual orientation.

As for what you call "legislated respect," you and I both know there really is no such thing. No amount of legislation could coerce you into respecting anyone. Do you know anyone who is Gay? Do you know any longterm Gay couples? And if so, is it possible for you to respect the commitment they have made to each other?

Perhaps not. Perhaps no Gay person would get your respect. But the fact remains that there is simply no Constitutional justification for denying law-abiding Gay individuals and couples the very same legal benefits and responsibilities that Straight individuals and couples have always taken for granted.

Let's go back to your original statement, and simply change "homosexual" to "black." Perhaps you would say, "If a liberal is black, he will loudly demand his civil rights. If a conservative is black, he will be content to sit in the back of the bus."

You seem to imply there is something wrong if a babykilling abortion mill is burned or bomb. Which do you prefer, a pile of bricks or a pile of dead babies? Innocent unborn babies deserve to be protected just as born children deserve to be protected. You would have no problem protecting born children if they were about to be murdered.
SAY THIS PRAYER: Dear Jesus, I am a sinner and am headed to eternal hell because of my sins. I believe you died on the cross to take away my sins and to take me to heaven. Jesus, I ask you now to come into my heart and take away my sins and give me eternal life.

I would agree with everything said in this blog. I will not support Senator Obama, but I can agree that he is way cool. I will support Senator McCain and I would question whether he could ever be cool. That said we need to understand that to criticized a candidate is not really an attack.

To say that Mr. Obama may not have enough experience to be the President of the United State is a valid comment. Even to say that some of his expressed ideas are quite liberal even left wing, but say that he is sympathetic to Soviet style communism is a distraction.
Mr. Obama claims to be a Christian not a follower of Islam that should be the end of the discussion. Both candidates would do well to leave this topic alone.

Similarly, to say that Mr. McCain is not particularly motivated by the economy is quite valid but to say that he does not care is a stretch. One can believe that the economy is not in recession and can in fact move forward without complicating the system with rash regulation without being blind that many people are financially stressed and concerned. It is a distraction to say that Mr. McCain would like to be in Iraq for 100 years is that exact same kind of politics that said Mr. McCain had a black love child. The facts were well known in both cases.

I wish this blog great success, I believe reasoned discussion will temper the scorched Earth politics that we have seen these past 25 years.

Great blog, - succinct and a little philosophical, too. I build bridges a lot. In my career with a major electrical utility, and before, in the consulting arena, one of my primary focuses was on creating effective professional relationships. It always helps to know who you are speaking to, and where your "common ground" is, in order to build bridges.
In my personal life, I am committed to eliminating prejudice and bigotry in my lifetime. This philosophy has taken me through some very challenging and rewarding adventures, and has shaken up my beliefs about who I think I am, and how to get to who I want to be!
In my spiritual life, I am all about building bridges - bridges to understanding, harmony, peace and joy, by living my life open to the presence of God in my heart and soul, and interacting with everything, from the Earth to the atmosphere, to all the people, to all the animals, to the vegetation, minerals and ocean life, in a way that reflects God's presence in me.
Thank you for the focus, and for stimulating my thoughts on what is really important in this life: The fact that we are all in this together, and it takes as much focus and attention as we can bring to the solution we all seek on this planet - how to get along. We are truly a global race, and we need to pull together to keep this planet together.
The fact that India and China are two emerging potential super-powers, with nuclear capability, competing aggressively on the world market for America's market share of resources makes me pause and consider America's role as THE world super-power in the next decade. Hmmmm. It is definitely a good time to build bridges . . .
